After ten years, one of the biggest global music events is returning to Germany: the MTV EMAs 2022 will take place in Düsseldorf for the first time on the 13th of November! The show at the PSD BANK DOME with numerous major stars will be broadcast live on MTV in more than 170 countries.
On an international level, the MTV EMAs are one of the most important music events of all. Every year, world renowned artists perform in alternating European cities - last year‘s line-up in Budapest included Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons & JID, Måneskin or One Republic, for example. Diversity and inclusion also play an important role: among other things, the MTV Generation Change Award is presented, which has been honouring fearless young activists all over the world since 2018. Which European city wins the bid depends on factors such as infrastructure, cultural life, surroundings, attractiveness as well as possible contributions from the host city - and this is where the Rhine metropolis scored: “Düsseldorf is a lively, multicultural city with a rich musical history - from Kraftwerk to the Toten Hosen and beyond. It‘s the perfect backdrop for an epic night celebrating today‘s best artists and the incredible power of music to transcend boundaries and unite us,” says Till Weidemüller, Country Manager GSA at Paramount, MTV‘s parent company.
“What‘s special about the EMAs is that we have a festival week leading up to the event, with a diverse cultural and music programme in Düsseldorf. This should also give us the opportunity to incorporate a lot of local art and culture. We will have a week of glamour, rock, pop and R‘n‘B in Düsseldorf. We want to show that Düsseldorf is THE place to be,” says Michael Brill, CEO of D.LIVE, the city‘s event organiser. The so-called MTV Music Week is scheduled to take place from 5 to 12 November 2022. There will be concerts, shows, dance events and dialogue formats throughout the city, with the highlight on the last day being the “MTV World Stage Concert”. The participating Düsseldorf artists and creatives will be able to present themselves to a broad audience and make the city pulsate for a whole week.

Artists, journalists, record companies and sponsors from all over the world will descend on Düsseldorf. Hotels, restaurants, venues, transport companies, museums, etc. will all benefit. And the external impact should also be enormous: There were over 7,000 articles and reports about the MTV EMAs 2021 with an added reach of 54 billion “Opportunities to See” and an advertising value of 32 million US dollars! •
Facts about UEFA EURO 2024
The MTV EMAs are one of the most important, international music events and take place in a different European city every year. So far, the event was staged in Paris, London, Berlin and Budapest among others.
The United Kingdom has hosted 6 times, Germany 5 times, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands 3 times each - with Düsseldorf now premiering!
Artists can be voted for in advance in various categories via the EMA website; the artists etc. will be announced at a later date.
